Cycling is by far one of the best ways to see the Dorset Countryside and savour your stay in Portland. The rugged coastline and beautiful countryside just invite you to slow down and see the world around you. There are many cycle route available for you to explore, ranging from 13-23 miles roundtrip. And, thanks to the work of the Dorset Cyclists’ Network (DCN), these paths are safe for those that travel them.
The Weymouth Tourist Information Centre offers a full colour glossy leaflet available for only 20p. These have a outlined a series of six circular routes, like the Abbosbury route, which leads you by Nottington’s Spa House, to Abbotsbury with its gardens and swannery, and back past Thomas Hardy’s home in Portesham.
If your travel details do not allow for you to bring your own bike, then there are a few reputable companies in the area that rent them for the day and also offer tours of the area.
