Weymouth and Portland has been praised as a birdwatchers paradise by the BBC’s Autumnwatch team

BBC’s Autumnwatch team visited the RSPB reserve at Radipole Lake in Weymouth and the Portland Bird Observatory and Field Centre to watch and film migrating birds. They have commented that there is ‘no better place in the country, other than Portland Bill, to witness bird migration.’
Therefore come to Weymouth and Portland and visit the birdwatcher’s paradise.
Autumnwatch is shown on BBC 2 on Friday nights at 9 pm.

The Boat that Rocked - a Universal Picutres movie about a 1960’s pirate radio ship - was mainly filmed on Portland and at sea around the island. Due for release on 1st April, local people are hoping for a premiere in Weymouth or on Portland.

Cyclists and runners from across the Uk will head to the Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy this weekend for Stage Three of the Endurancelife Coastal Trail Quest. The Olympic venue is hosting a full marathon, half marathon and 10k run on Saturday when more than 500 competitors are expected to take part.
